Maidhc Mac Dubhghaill
Maidhc Mac Dubhghaill holds a BSc in Energy Systems Engineering from the University of Galway, graduating with honours in 2025, and is now enrolled in a MA in Energy Systems Engineering in the University of Galway. In 2024, he was selected to participate in the Erasmus program, spending a semester in the University of Seville, and enrolled in MA of Industrial Engineering. He was elected as the UG Engineering Society representative in his 3rd year, and was a founding member of the Energy Society in the University of Galway.
He has completed various research projects, such as working in conjunction with the Comharchumann Fuinnimh Oileáin Árann, exploring the utility of hydroelectric power off the west coast of the Aran Islands, to assist with the goal of making the Aran Islands energy independent. Also reviewing the aero-structural design optimisation of wind turbine blades, and modelling the e-methanol production process using green hydrogen, based on the Acerinox factory in Algeciras.
In 2025, he began working in the industry on utility-scale solar development and construction across Ireland. This involved design, suitability assessments, maintenance works and inspection of large-scale solar farms and industrial PV projects
He is currently completing his thesis, under the supervision of Dr. Marcus Keane, on the viability of machine learning architectures for predictive maintenance of industrial-scale PV systems.
